The Glasgow School of Art will be okay

The Glasgow School of Art is a dear place for me – I’d go far as to say it’s a kind of sanctuary. I love working there.  When I heard about the tragic events of 27th May, my heart dropped to my toes.  Not only was an irreplaceable building in jeopardy, but the amazing work of students and years of dedicated staff research was also on the line, along with the unique Mackintosh archives that live in the basement of The Mack.  Like everybody, my heartfelt thanks go the firefighters and staff who saved as much as they did.

GSA invited me in to photograph areas that were spared from the flames and my spirits lifted when I saw just how much was saved: the archives, the lecture theatre, Mackintosh Gallery, Mack room, stairwells… the list goes on.

How very amazing.
