About the project

McAteer Photo’s collaboration with North Hill Gardens, a leading landscape garden design, construction, and maintenance service provider, was a journey of shared vision and creativity. Their bold designs, rooted in sustainability and wildlife conservation, have been a joy to photograph. Our images capture the essence of their work, showcasing their craftsmanship and commitment to transforming outdoor spaces into beautiful and enchanting environments.

Over several summer seasons, we visited many gardens where we photographed intricate planting and innovative hard landscaping, and lighting solutions that transformed ordinary spaces into pleasing and relaxing, functional environments. The objective was to create a portfolio of images that highlight the breadth and depth of North Hill’s talents, from intimate gardens that blend into their natural environment to expansive plots designed for multifunctional use.

Our approach included daytime and nighttime photography, capturing ground-level and aerial perspectives using a drone. Panoramas and close-ups showing the interplay of light, quality craftsmanship and thoughtful detail created a visual narrative that reflects North Hill’s originality and precision which defines their projects. Our images are well used to great effect on their website, printed publications and social media pages.

Daytime photography allowed us to highlight each garden’s natural beauty and considered details. Bright, natural light emphasised the lush greenery, colourful flowers, and meticulously arranged planting. Wide-angle shots captured the overall design and flow of the gardens, illustrating how each element harmoniously contributes to the whole. Detailed close-ups focussed on specific plants and materials, showcasing the texture and craftsmanship involved in the hard landscaping.

North Hill’s innovative lighting solutions transform their gardens into enchanting nighttime landscapes, a key design feature we captured at dusk. Our photographs show the subtle glow of pathway lights, the dramatic uplighting of trees, and the soft illumination of water features and garden sculpture, capturing the ambience and creating a sense of mystery.

Drone photography provided a unique vantage point, revealing the full scope and layout of these beautiful designs. From above, the intricate patterns of pathways, the geometry of planting beds, and the integration of special features and seating areas become evident. This perspective effectively showcases larger projects where the viewer can appreciate the overall design. Drone images also highlight a garden’s connectivity to the surrounding landscape, showing the company’s commitment to creating gardens that complement and enhance the built environment, and promote sustainability.
