Princess Anne returns 25 years later

It’s not every day you get a royal visit, is it?  Unfortunately, McAteer Photograph didn’t but clients, Thales did: a visit from Princess Anne to their Glasgow site.  The occasion was to celebrate their 25th anniversary of the Linthouse Road factory.  Henk and I were invited along to record the occasion, which saw Princess Anne return to the site that she originally opened in May 1993.

The sound of bagpipes welcomed both the princess and the employees and set the scene for this special occasion.  The princess first came 25 years ago to open Thales’ optronics facilities and returned in 2018 to join the celebrations of their achievements in Scottish tech design, engineering and manufacturing.  Princess Anne was also joined by local MPs and MSPs and it was great to see that schools and charities associated with Thales were included on the day.

I’ve photographed many Royals over the years including The Queen, Prince Charles and William and Harry who, in particular, embrace any occasion they attend.  But like the younger generation Princess Anne seems to be both down to earth and young at heart and her knowledge and witty repartee seems to put everyone at ease.
